Legal Malpractice Suit Initiated by Hulk Hogan

Tony Bollea (aka Hulk Hogan) hired the law firm Zuckerman Spaeder to represent his son Nick following a tragic automobile accident.  Nick was 17 at the time of the accident.  A passenger in the vehicle was permanently injured.  The Hogan family agreed to pay $550 per hour to Zuckerman Spaeder and ultimately, Zuckerman Spaeder fees and costs totaled nearly $1,500,000.  Now Hogan has filled a lawsuit in Florida against Zuckerman Spaeder alleging his son’s former law firm never told the Hogan family that Progressive would have paid the entire cost of Nick’s defense.

While this could be very interesting and expensive for Zuckerman Spaeder if the allegations are true, it is important that everyone knows that if you cause an accident call your insurance company immediately and report it and your car insurance company will pay for your defense.  Being a public person he may have wanted/needed special attention to minimize media attention to the case or other services. The real tragedy here may be that Hogan clearly thought little of the insurance he purchased and his carrier.  Your insurance company and independent insurance broker are resources you should consult regularly and often, but especially after a serious automobile accident.  Failing to do so could lead to much more trouble than Mr. Hogan suffered.

When was the last time your carefully reviewed your own coverage? As insurance brokers specializing in providing insurance coverage for lawyers and law firms, many of whom represent victims of automobile accidents, it blows my mind how many fail to procure sufficient insurance to protect their own family in the event of a catastrophic accident. What specialties should I focus on with doctors for Health insurance?

I’m a health insurance broker and my goal is to specialize in providing health insurance as well as catastrophic benefits programs to doctor’s offices. I have a few under my belt currently, but I didn’t really offer them anything in particular. I’m now trying to transition to being the leader in my area in providing products to them that will solve problems they may have. What can I focus on? Also, what special needs can I seek to answer for them with the benefits i offer for their staff (i.e what do they have to send out that not a lot of other industries have to worry about beside malpractice)?

Preferably a few doctors or professionals that work with doctors can answer this for me.

Maybe on the job injuries.
